Forewing length of 5.5-7.5 mm. Forewing colour is variable, usually whitish with many suffused grey markings and the basal third blackish-brown in colour.
There is usually a prominent blackish triangular mark before the top outer edge of wing when folded (tornus). The ocellus is elongate with the edge leaden metallic.
Early instars spin needles together and mine them out, before overwintering between woven needles. On emerging during the Spring larvae feed on young developing buds, where they eventually pupate.
