Pest Details
Adult
Wingspan of 10-12 mm. Forewings grey-brown, darker on the lower edge and at the wing apex. Hindwings are narrow and uniformly grey-brown, smoky coloured at the tips.
Larvae
Colourless and very small when newly hatched. Final instars reach 6.5 mm in length. Body is pale brownishwhite with a darker head and prothoracic plate.
Eggs
Oval, semi translucent and ca. 0.15 x 0.20 mm in size. Laid singly or in small batches on flowers and buds.

Symptons/Signs
Larvae bore into buds and young flowers to feed. damaged inflorescences dry up and die. Later generations feed on developing fruit, forming feeding galleries in the skin which can often be evident by exuding gum. Leaves are also eaten and become covered in silken threads.

Monitoring
Adults Present
All year round (temperature dependant). Monitoring should begin before the appearance of the first flora buds.
Recommended Trap Density
Monitoring: 2 traps per hectare for large uniform groves and 3-4 traps per hectare for small, mixed, or less dense citrus stands. Mass Trapping: For adequate control, between 50 and 100 traps per hectare is recommended, depending on population size, size of grove (smaller groves need a greater density of traps) and surrounding area (moths may travel from nearby groves).
Trap Maintenance
Check traps on a regular basis; at least twice a week. Replace the pheromone dispensers every 4 weeks to achieve optimum results. Once between 7 and 21 moths per trap per week is reached a control strategy such as mass trapping should be considered.
Storage
Keep product away from heat and direct sunlight. Store in a refrigerator for a shelf life of 12 months or a freezer for an extended life of 24 months. Always store sealed in original packaging.
