Pest Details
Adult
Forewing length of ca. 8mm. Forewings are uniformly pale brown with little marking. Faint dark longitudinal streaks and a black central dot should be visible.
Larvae
Ca. 25 mm long when fully grown. Whitish with a pale brown head and 2 pairs of longitudinal pink-purple stripes but no mid dorsal stripe.
Eggs
Yellowish and spherical. Laid in clutches of 5 to 100 eggs on dead shoots or leaves near the base of the stem.

Symptons/Signs
Young larvae feed on leaves and leaf sheaths before tunnelling into the internodes of the stalk to feed. Tunnelling by the larvae can cause lodging (stem bending) and causes an orange discolouration of the leaf sheath. Unlike sugarcane borers which eject frass from tunnels, tunnels created by this pest are filled with excreta

Recommended Trap Density
2-3 traps per hectare. If 20 or more moths are trapped within a week then crops should be sampled, and control options considered.
Trap Maintenance
Check traps on a regular basis; at least twice a week. It is recommended to replace the pheromone dispensers every 4 weeks to achieve optimum results.
Storage
Keep product away from heat and direct sunlight. Store in a refrigerator for a shelf life of 12 months or a freezer for an extended life of 18 months. Always store sealed in original packaging.
