Symptons/Signs
Nymphs of the first generation emerge in in mid Spring and feed on developing fruits, flowers and shoots. Feeding by adults and nymphs results in necrotic tissue death due to toxins present in the saliva. Blackish-brown necrotic spots which tear as young leaves grow and malformed fruits are symptoms of feeding damage.
Generations
1 – 5 depending on climate
Monitoring
Adults Present
Traps should be positioned between rows of crops at a height of 20-50 cm. If vane traps are used these can be buried into the ground up to the funnel.
Recommended Trap Density
If adults appear in traps, sample the crop for the presence of adults and nymphs. Randomly sample clusters and determine the number that are infested. Control should be considered if 10% or more of sampled clusters are infested.
Trap Maintenance
Check traps on a regular basis, at least twice a week. Replace pheromone dispensers every 4 weeks to achieve optimum results.
Storage
Keep product away from heat and direct sunlight. Store in a refrigerator for a shelf life of 12 months or a freezer for an extended life of 24 months. Always store sealed in original packaging
